On Wednesday, June 9th, the California Association of REALTORS® hosted its 39th annual Legislative Day, where Realtors® from across the state came to Sacramento to hear from the state's political leaders and to lobby their state legislators on behalf of the real estate industry.
Among those attending from the Humboldt Association of REALTORS® were Realtors® Kevin Dreyer, Kathi Ray, Tom Hiller, Janice Stewart, Ted Loring, Jr., Art Nellessen, Tracy Helard-Shumard, Victoria Copeland, Jeremy Stanfield, Jeff Ragan, Robin Ronay, Patty Stocum and HAR Executive Officer Lois Lee Busey.

This year nearly 2,000 Realtors® heard remarks from Senator Bob Dutton and incoming Senate Minority Leader and Assembly Member Mary Hayashi.
C.A.R. Legislative Day is an opportunity for California Realtors® to meet with their State legislators and staff to discuss legislation that affects the real estate industry. Of most concern was budget gap tax increases related to forced over-withholding on independent contractors, taxes on services and changes to the mortgage interest deduction.

Also discussed was SB 1178, an C.A.R. sponsored bill that would extend anti-deficiency protections to homeowners who have refinanced "purchase money" loans and are now facing foreclosure. C.A.R.'s opposition to AB 1919 which will essentially create a $10 transfer tax on the filing of grant deeds which would go into a survey monument preservation fund was also a discussed key legislative issue.

The day concluded with C.A.R.'s 13th Annual Capitol Reception where attendees had the opportunity to meet and mingle with State legislators and other governmental officials at one of the capital's largest annual receptions.
